Ο Ισραηλινός ΥΠΕΞ θα ηγείται επίσημης αντιπροσωπείας, αποτελούμενης από υψηλόβαθμους αξιωματούχους του ισραηλινού ΥΠΕΞ όπως επίσης και τον Πρόεδρο και αξιωματούχους της Εθνικής Εταιρείας Νερού «Μεκορότ».

Σύμφωνα με το επίσημο πρόγραμμα της επίσκεψης, την Τρίτη 17 Απριλίου ο Αβιγκντορ Λίμπερμαν θα έχει στις 10:00 το πρωί κατ’ ιδίαν συνάντηση με την Κύπρια ομόλογό του Ερατώ Κοζάκου Μαρκουλλή. Θα ακολουθήσουν επίσημες συνομιλίες των αντιπροσωπειών των δυο χωρών στο Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών.

Ακολούθως ο κ. Λίμπερμαν και η ισραηλινή αντιπροσωπεία θα μεταβούν στο Προεδρικό Μέγαρο όπου θα γίνουν δεκτοί από τον Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας Δημήτρη Χριστόφια και στη συνέχεια στο Υπουργείο Εμπορίου, Βιομηχανίας και Τουρισμού για συνάντηση με τον Υπουργό Εμπορίου Νεοκλή Συλικιώτη.

Το μεσημέρι της Τρίτης ο Ισραηλινός ΥΠΕΞ θα παρακαθίσει σε γεύμα που διοργανώνει προς τιμήν του η Υπουργός Εξωτερικών. Στη συνέχεια θα μεταβεί σε ξενοδοχείο της Λευκωσίας όπου το απόγευμα θα έχει συνάντηση με τον ΓΓ του ΑΚΕΛ Αντρο Κυπριανού.

Την Τετάρτη το πρωί ο κ. Λίμπερμαν να έχει συνάντηση στη Λεμεσό με τον Πρόεδρο του ΔΗΣΥ Νίκο Αναστασιάδη, ενώ το μεσημέρι της ίδιας μέρας θα επισκεφτεί τη μονάδα αφαλάτωσης στην Επισκοπή.

Ο Ισραηλινός ΥΠΕΞ και η συνοδεία του θα αναχωρήσουν από την Κύπρο το βράδυ της Τετάρτης 18 Απριλίου.

Επειδή πολλές φορές όπως είπαν κάποιοι αγωνιστές, ο εχθρός έχει όνομα και διεύθυνση…

On April 6th, at 10:30, special antiterrorist forces and other trained squads of the police entered the squatted social center within the green line with uncontrollable brutality, answering our questions with beating and pushing. When they realized that the majority of people there were underage, their behaviour reflected a systematic psychological violence, despite the fact that there was no resistance from the arrested. The attempt to excuse the raid came out to be false, since there was no warrant for a drug search, and there were also no requests from the building’s owners (Kykkos Monastery). After many hours of detainment at the Pyli Pafou police station, the arrested were accused of illegal entry without permission, an accusation that on its own is not an actual crime under the legal code, since there was no evidence of a purpose to commit a crime. Those who were beaten during their arrest were accused of resisting the police, assault and obstruction of police work, so that they could justify their own actions.

Is it logical to arrest, beat and kick out those who took a derelict, dead building and transformed it into a social center? A space that hosted a projection area, a self-organized cafe, a collective kitchen, a working out space, and recording station – for music and a radio station. A space that when we entered it, even the floors had holes, and yet despite this we did not undermine its historic value, the view of the sunset from the roof, and its unusual architecture. Filled with passion and energy, with a profound creativity, in one month we made the building able to host both people and various activites, and meanwhile we discovered that this attempt was a necessity for EVERY cypriot, as you expel the wounds from the invasion, materialistically and mentally, with creation upon the ruins. Throwing away the military’s sandbags, fixing the doors and the windows, filling up 40-year-old holes from bullets of automatic rifles, drawing around – and not on – the decomposition of the walls, as we do not forget the mental death caused by the invasion. We dare to give back life to everything they have stolen from us and we do refuse passiveness. We contest every piece of land, every building, and every human relationship. Not in theory, but in practice, a social example that surpassed the schedule of the leader’s ‘discussions’ and lived a reunification, proving that borders cannot keep us apart.

The media’s misinformation was based on photo-documents taken after the police’s invasion, and the building is projected as a ruin, which was infact caused by the actions of the police. A space that was built upon horizontal structures of collective participation faced the political authorities of the island, which is trying to destroy any social effort that does not come from its authoritarian structure (political parties/ state/ church). Due to the coming presidency of the European Union in Cyprus, any such social experiments do not fit in the image of a quite, lawful island that the cypriot state and the capital behind it want to present.

The squat is closed now, everything it hosted and everything it could have hosted are a part of the past. What remains is to seek a continuation of our action, and our collective answers to the state’s repression. Whatever happens, we don’t give up, and we won’t rot in a defeated state: repression may leave marks on our bodies, but never on our ideas and our dreams. Because in the end, that was the goal, to experiment, to discuss, to share and find ourselves under conditions that would alow the development of human relationships the way we want them to be – relationships of equality and solidarity. And the point now is to keep that solidarity and to defend everything we did. And whatever the various ‘men-in-suits’ say on TV, one thing is definitely true: they do not understand us… and they can never beat what they do not understand…

On the night of Friday 6/4/2012 as is known, the police invaded the space that was under occupation by the Occupy Buffer Zone movement in the Dead Zone. The movement is part of the global occupations movement that began last year in New York and is protesting against the poverty and social injustices that the capitalist neoliberal model is creating in every corner of the earth. In Cyprus, the movement took on a bicommunal character and considered from the beginning that the so-called ‘Cyprus problem’ is a result of the competitions that are created in capitalism and expresses the interests of local and international forces in the region. Thus we considered it important, T/Cs and G/Cs jointly, to transfer the protest to the space of the dead zone, a point of the island which semiotically describes all of the above.

The empty building owned by the Kykkos monastery was transformed by the movement into a center for activities of cultural and sociopolitical nature which was open for all. On Friday night the executive power in an unprecedented demonstration of force, and, in communication with the other authorities including the United Nations (in view of the coming EU presidency), proved that any political and social action that differs from the ‘standard’ stereotypes will be persecuted with a dictatorial and authoritarian character that does not recognize nor respect human and constitutional rights. In the only space of the island where reunification and social equality escape the limits of state negotiations and are realized through collective and self-organized processes, the answer of the legal Cypriot state took place in the framework of intimidation, threat and irregularity.

The accusation of illegal entry with which all the arrested were charged does not constitute an offence according to the penal code as there was no intention for committing a penal offence. Therefore the detention of the arrested is considered illegal. As a movement but also as citizens we demand to know why the policemen refused persistently to show any warrant, as well as their identification numbers (as is provided by law) when they were repeatedly asked to. In addition, it was not answered whether the terrorist raid of the repression forces took place with the consent of the legal owner. If the Kykkos monastery wanted to claim and restore the building to inaction it would have been morally more right to ask, or take action with the legal procedures instead of encouraging the police to intervene making unfounded allegations.

The unfounded reason for drug trafficking is rejected naturally from the result of the operation during which the police managed to find in total less than a gram of cannabis on the floor of one room! They took care of charging this quantity on two young men that happened to be near the room, one inside the room and the other outside, giving them a beating in the process. Several hours later and after the young men asked to be examined by the doctor, they were also charged with the accusations of resistance and assault, obviously in order to justify the uncalled-for beating. A body search also took place on girls by armed men of the special forces who were aiming their guns at 16 year olds. As for our friend who is charged with assaulting a policeman, it is enough for someone to see the marks on her body to understand if she were a victim or an aggressor.

The participation of the Special Anti-Terrorist Force shows the way in which the state handles the youth of this place, G/Cs and T/Cs, who claim a future which will be a creation of the Cypriot people themselves and not a creation of the existing domestic and world politico-economical and social status quo.

We apologize for being unable to transfer in words the repugnant scenes of state violence we lived, and we wish to assure you that we will not stop existing actively and creatively.

Είμαστε ένα πολυπολιτισμικό κίνημα στην Κύπρο που άρχισε τον αγώνα του παράλληλα με το παγκόσμιο κίνημα “Occupy” ενάντια στην παγκόσμια αδικία και απαιτούμε αποστρατικωποίηση και επανένωση του νησιού μας.

Από τις 19 Νοεμβρίου έχουμε καταλάβει την περιοχή της νεκρής ζώνης που μοιράζει το νησί εδώ και δεκαετίες. Έχουμε διοργανώσει πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις, καλλιτεχνικά εργαστήρια, ποιητικές και μουσικές βραδιές και έχουμε δημιουργήσει ένα διαδικτυακό ραδιοφωνικό σταθμό στα εγκαταλελειμμένα κτίρια της νεκρής ζώνης στην οδό Λήδρας/Lokmaci στο κέντρο της Λευκωσίας.

Την νύκτα της 6ης Απριλίου αστυνομική δύναμη της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας μπήκε στο κτίριο, χρησιμοποίησε βία ενάντια σε ειρηνικούς διαδηλωτές και έκανε περισσότερες από 20 συλλήψεις. Ένα άτομο τραυματίστηκε και μεταφέρθηκε στο νοσοκομείο. Μαζεύτηκε πλήθος ως ένδειξη αλληλεγγύης και η αστυνομία χρησιμοποίησε και πάλι βία για να το διαλύσει και να συλλάβει τελικά ακόμα δύο άτομα.

Καταδικάζουμε τη βίαιη στάση της αστυνομίας και απαιτούμε την άμεση αποφυλάκιση όλων των διαδηλωτών που έχουν συλληφθεί. Δηλώνουμε ότι είμαστε αποφασισμένοι να συνεχίσουμε τον αγώνα μας για ειρήνη και επανένωση του νησιού και καλούμε όλους στην Κύπρο αλλά και το παγκόσμιο κίνημα Occupy να μας στηρίξουν.
